Permionics has quickly established itself as a pioneer in providing advanced membrane solutions tailored for the fishery industry. With a focus on innovation, Permionics has developed cutting-edge technologies that address critical challenges in fish processing. To reduce waste and ensure the proper use of resources, adopting these solutions will be a great decision.
Recovering resources such as water and proteins is essential for both durability and cost-effectiveness in the fishery industry. Permionics’ solutions are setting new standards by making processes more efficient, reducing waste, and supporting sustainable practices across different sectors.
Stick Water Concentration – An Innovative Solution
What is Stick Water?
Stick water is a byproduct of fish processing, created during stages like cooking, crushing, and fish oil separation. This effluent is rich in proteins, biological oxygen demand (BOD), and inorganic salts, which make it a valuable resource for recovery and further use.
Membrane Process for Water Recovery
Permionics has developed a unique membrane technology for recovering water from stick water streams. As the only company to implement this technology on a large scale, Permionics is helping fish processing plants reduce waste and improve efficiency by recovering water that would otherwise be discarded.
Clarification of Enzymatic Hydrolyzed Stick Water
Subjecting Stick Water to hydrolysis using Enzyme breaks down the larger Proteins into Peptides and finally to amino acids. This product has much better value compared to the unhydrolyzed stick water which usually is common in all fisheries. Post Hydrolysis the major (i.e. ~50%) of hydrolyzed products is in the form of Amino acids, mono/di and tri peptides along with suspended colloids. Thus if not clarified well before making powder, the product lacks to meet the desired specification for end use.
.
Permionics’ Ceramic CMF Solution
To address these challenges, Permionics has introduced its Ceramic Cross Flow Microfiltration (CMF) membrane system. This technology efficiently clarifies hydrolyzed stick water, resulting in a high-quality product that meets the stringent specifications required for its intended uses.
Surimi Processing – Water and Protein Recovery
Water Usage in Surimi Production
Surimi production involves multiple stages where water is used for washing fish. This water, often treated with Reverse Osmosis (RO), contains valuable proteins that are typically discarded into Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), leading to unnecessary resource loss.
Integrated UF & RO Membrane Solutions
For the purpose of recovering these proteins from surimi wash water, Permionics has created a combined Ultrafiltration (UF) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) membrane technology. The synthesis of fish meal can therefore be redirected from these proteins, optimising resource use and reducing waste.
Water Recycling and Cost Reduction
The water recovered during this process can be recycled back into surimi production with minimal biological treatment. This approach not only reduces water procurement costs but also lowers treatment expenses, contributing to more sustainable and cost-efficient operations.
Key Benefits of Permionics Membrane Solutions for Fisheries
Water and Resource Efficiency
Permionics’ membrane solutions provide efficient recovery of water and proteins, helping fish processing plants optimize resources, minimize waste, and reduce their environmental footprint.
Cost Savings
By recovering valuable proteins and recycling water, fish processing facilities can achieve significant cost savings. The combination of economic benefits and environmental sustainability makes Permionics’ solutions an essential part of modern fishery operations.
Conclusion: Revolutionizing Fishery Processes with Membrane Technology
The fishery industry requires advanced membrane solutions, and Permionics is the ideal choice. It helps in improving resource recovery, reducing waste, and supporting sustainability. As the need for eco-friendly practices grows worldwide, Permionics is positioned to continue driving innovation and success in the fishery sector.
