Guided by emerging research, and our concern about water becoming a scarce commodity, we embarked on developing membranes in India, commercializing it in 1980. Foraying, not only into the application of membranes for water desalination, but also using membranes for a wide range of process separations, our founder laid the foundation of what Permionics stands for: A complete solution provider across the membrane separation spectrum, with a presence in almost all industry segments where membranes can find their use. Membrane development is a continuous process and that is where we also stand out and that which has enabled us to fulfill our founders vision of being India’s only membrane Production facility. A full-fledged casting and coating facility backed by spiral winding facilities supports our systems manufacturing division to optimize our offering to our customers.

PERMIONICS RO MEMBRANES

LOW FOULING RO MEMBRANE FOR WASTEWATER

In our Unique Hydrophilized PA RO membranes which have neutral charge and smooth surface, the additional coating on the membrane is what makes the difference. Our turboclean design coupled with the HPA membranes are revolutionary operating on high turbidity feeds with high COD and BOD. The best proof is in testing the waters which Permionics has done over the past fifteen years with over 1000 working systems in this space. A comparison with conventional membranes can hardly be made because they just don’t work. Most Low fouling membranes that exist in the market place play with the spacer thickness rather than modifying membrane surfaces which has no advantage or fouling resistance properties. These are available in standard 4040 and 8040 FRP wrapped construction. Uncoated membranes are available for Brackish water treatment.

ULTRA LOW PRESSURE RO MEMBRANES

A new series of ultra-low pressure membrane elements for low TDS feed waters operating at half the pressures than the standard BW RO membranes keeping the rejection levels intact. The data below for the 8040 and 4040 elements clearly defines the superior performance of these membranes.

Sea Water Desalination

These are extended area sea water membrane elements available in two variants; 1) The uncoated membranes for UF treated sea water; 2) The surface treated membranes for high fouling high TDS waste waters as well as for direct sea water desalination applications.

SUMMARY OF THE RO RANGE OF ELEMENTS

High temperature Sanitizable RO Membranes

These are membranes used in Ultrapure water systems as well as in applications where the temperature of feed streams are > 50°C and a maximum of 70°C. USP grade water production systems is a typical application for these elements where hot water sanitization is required at 80°C. Other applications are where high temperature Ultrafiltration/Nanofiltration permeates need to be polished. These elements are available in caged as well as FRP outer wrap. The polysulfone ATD’s and central tube are important elements of this series other feed and permeate spacer.

NANO FILTRATION MEMBRANES

NF Membrane for process applications

The HFT series is a polyamide chemistry based Nanofiltration membrane available in three molecular weight cut offs at present; 100-150 Dalton; 200-300 Dalton; 300-400 Dalton; 600-800 Dalton. HFT 150 being the tightest of them all, behaves more like a lose RO. So when you need only concentration, it is ideal. All other membranes above that cut off are meant for fractionation or even just concentration. An operating pH range of 2-11 is a significant advantage. Elements are available the following variants

1. Alcohol Stable
2. High temperature stable
3. Net outer wrap for sanitary application in 8038/3838 sizes
4. Net outer wrap in standard 8040/4040 sizes.

Alkali stable Nanofiltration Membranes

These are non-polyamide, cross linked PES membranes that are stable across 0-14 pH up to 20% NaOH concentration. Moreover these are chlorine sanitizable so are ideal for food and beverage applications. The ability to pass chlorides without much resistance coupled with high divalent salt rejection makes it an excellent membrane for separation of chlorides and sulphates.

Acid stable Nanofiltration Membranes

These are non-polyamide, cross linked PES membranes that are stable in mineral acids like Hydrochloric acid, Sulphuric acid, Nitric acid and Phosphoric acid. Moreover these are chlorine sanitizable therefore are ideal for food and beverage applications. The ability to pass chlorides coupled with high heavy metal rejection makes it an excellent membrane for separation of heavy metals from acids.

ULTRA FILTRATION MEMBRANES

This is yet another unique range of products that permionics has to offer. Two types of chemistries are available:
1. Surface Modified PES
2. Unmodified PES

Hydrophilic PES Ultrafiltration Membranes

This is a very rugged membrane that has a thin film layer on a polyethersulphone backing. It gives the membrane a characteristic high flux and a tight pore structure making it a low cut off UF ( ~ 5000 Daltons) with PEG 6000 rejection of >95%. Also available in a lower cut off (95% rejection of PEG4000). Alkali stable variant also available.
The applications are:

1. High organic load waste waters are pretreated with this UF
2. Stick water treatment
3. SURIMI Waste water treatment and protein recovery
4. Colour removal from herbal extracts as a pretreatment to downstream membrane and resins.
5. Whey fractionation
6. Lactose removal from Milk.
7. Oil water separation
8. Protein separation from alcohol or hydroalcholic extracts
9. Enzyme Concentration & Purification from Fermentation broths /Enzyme Hydrolysate.
10. Concentration and de-ashing of -Soya Protein (SPI), Gelatine from collagen extracts
11. Endotoxin removal from API/ lnjectables

Unmodified PES Ultrafiltration Membranes

All membranes are available in flat sheet and spiral wound construction with different variants. Elements are available in the following variants:

1. Alcohol Stable
2. High temperature stable
3. Net outer wrap for sanitary application in 8038/3838 sizes
4. Net outer wrap in standard 8040/4040 sizes.

This series are the unmodified UF membranes available in a range of Molecular weight cut-offs

Elixir

Chlorine Resistant Nano-filtration (Elixir) membrane with 25-40% TDS rejection at high recovery. Available in 2540, 4040, 8040 spiral wound elements. Ideal for community drinking water systems.

Elixir Plus

Chlorine Resistant Nano-filtration (Elixir) membrane with 40-70% TDS rejection at high recovery. Available in 2540, 4040, 8040 spiral wound elements. Ideal for community drinking water systems.
