FAQ's

  • Why have a water purification system at all?

Water is life, without which life ceases to exist. More than anything else, the fact that 8 out of 10 diseases are waterborne makes it absolutely necessary to purify the water before consumption.
  • Which is the best water purification technology available?

Membrane Technology is the superior and the best method of water purification available today. Membrane water purifiers are reliable and dependable which makes them different from other water purifying methods like chemical purifiers & UV purifiers, as they do not depend on chemical dosing or UV rays or the level of contamination for the efficient purification of water for drinking.
  • Why should one choose Permionics water purifiers?

As stated above, Membrane Technology is the best water purification method available today, and Permionics is the Pioneer of Membrane Technology in India. We have been in water industry for the last 30 years and are the only Indian company making all the three types of membranes used for domestic water purification for drinking purpose ie. Ultra-Filtration, Nano-filtration and RO. Permionics believes in giving healthy and right solution to the customers, hence makes different water purifiers for different water quality.
  • What is Pureflo UF water purifier?

Pureflo UF water purifier is India's original membrane water purifier. It is based on Ultra-filtration membrane technology, and is basically designed for low TDS water, TDS below 500 ppm for eg. municipal water.
  • Why Pureflo UF gives you safe water?

Pureflo UF water purifiers use as their active element, Ultra Filtration Membrane with pores so fine (.01 micron) that micro-organisms are unable to pass through therefore acting as an effective barrier against pathogenic micro-organisms, colloidal matter and other physical impurities. This process does not use added chemicals or even electricity. This is a method of complete purification whereby not even bacterial debris remains in water. This process can be compared to the natural purification process occurring in plant tissues whereby plants absorb purified water from dirty subsoil water with the aid of their natural cell membranes. On comparison, these filters prove to be the best to combat the influx of waterborne, illness causing pathogens (bacteria and virus).
  • How does Pureflo UF work if it doesnt require electricity?

Pureflo UF (and all our UF products) works with the overhead tank water pressure. Pureflo UF has been designed to give 15 to 20 LPH at 10 ft. head. The output will be directly proportional to the height of overhead tank. However, the min. head required is 10 ft.
  • Can we use a pump to operate Pureflo UF?

Over head tank water pressure is sufficient for our UF range of water purifiers, and they are not designed to operate on Pump, as high pressure would result in increased flow rate (beyond the limit of the product) which in turn would lead to quicker fouling/choking of membrane
  • Does the efficiency of UF membrane reduce over time?

Never! It could happen the flow rate may come down to 10 drops after years of usage. But the last drop, which you will get, will be as pure as the first drop. That is Permionics Membrane That is Quality!
  • When should one replace the membrane?

When the pure water flow from the membrane reduces, it is an indication that membrane has started choking. You could get it serviced since there is a possibility of retrieving membrane flow by flushing out the contaminants. Despite this cleaning, if there is no improvement in the output flow, then the membrane has to be replaced with a new one.
  • What is the importance of daily flushing?

Flushing the system once daily for two to three minutes will ensure that all impurities separated by membrane are flushed out regularly, which will enhance the life of the membrane. If the feed water quality is bad, the flushing should be done more frequently
  • Will there be huge wastage of water?

No! Water wastage will be negligible, as there is no other reject water flow than flushing
  • Will Pureflo UF remove dissolved salts from water?

Pureflo UF is designed for low TDS water from which we only need to remove turbidity, colloids and disease causing bacteria and virus. It will not change the chemical composition of water.
  • What are the other models available in UF range?

    Pureflo UF ECO

       o  Economical, Domestic, online
       o  15 LPH - 20 LPH at 10 ft. head
       o  Manual Flushing

    Pureflo UF 80

       o  Institutional, online model
       o  80 LPH at 20 ft. head
o  Suitable for water cooler attachment
o  Automatic timer set flushing every hour for 2 mts.
  • What is the flushing mechanism in UF 80 model?

Being designed as online, institutional model with water cooler attachment facility, we have given automatic flushing facility in these models. The impurities removed by the membrane are periodically flushed out of the system by the activation of a Solenoid Valve through an Electronic Circuit. While electricity is not required for purification, it is required for flushing to happen.
  • Can one use Pureflo UF on hard, high TDS water?

No, for hard/high TDS water we have Pureflo NF and Pureflo RO systems, for the customers to choose depending upon the feed TDS levels, to make it sweet and potable
  • What is Pureflo NF?

Pureflo NF is the First Chlorine Resistant Nanofiltration Membrane based water purifier that removes the right amount of TDS from water, while it completely removes turbidity, colloids, bacteria and viruses to give safe, healthy and nourishing drinking water.
  • What are the Technical Specifications of Pureflo NF?

    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS:

Membrane type Proprietary Polyethersulfone NF membrane
Free chlorine 5 ppm continuous; 50 ppm shock
    Permeate flow 8 to 10 litres/hr ± 10%
    Hardness Rejection min. 55%
    TDS Rejection ~ 35 - 40%
  • What are the salient features?

o  It rejects 55-60% Total hardness and 35-40% overall TDS in feed water
o  Rejects more than 80% of heavy metals such as Nickel, Cadmium, Iron, Aluminium etc.
o  Can be used on municipal water supplies as well
o  Free Chlorine is not a constraint which means no reduction in rejection in presence of Free chlorine
  • When should one use Pureflo NF?

Those who have municipal water and still want to use RO, or those who are using RO on municipal water (membrane replacement in this case), or if the feed water is a mix of chlorinated municipal supply and bore-well water. Pureflo NF is ideal for waters having TDS below 600 ppm
  • What is the life of the NF membrane?

The life of the membrane depends upon the quality of water, consumption, and flushing frequency. Typically, a new NF module will give approx. 10000 - 15000 litres of pure water, and the life of the module may vary depending upon one’s daily water consumption.
  • How does Pureflo NF become a better option than RO?

Normal RO membranes get damaged and lose the capacity to reject salts if operated on chlorinated water supplies and RO membranes cannot be sterilized using any disinfecting agent. However, this proprietary chemistry membrane of ours developed in-house and operating on large industrial scale systems, can be sterilized using chlorine and will still maintain its rejection. This ensures that there is no bacterial growth either on feed or permeate side.
Second most important factor is the indiscriminate use of RO membranes on water having even potable levels of TDS, which results in the user drinking almost distilled water which does more harm than good in the long run. The WHO limit for TDS in drinking water is 500 ppm, and majority of places have tap water, TDS ranging from 60 ppm to 600 ppm. In this band width, our new membrane will condition the water just the right amount to give safe and nourishing potable water rather than DEAD water.
  • When should one use a RO system?

One should use a RO system only if the feed water is hard and salty bore-well water with high level of TDS ie. TDS beyond 600, for removal of excess dissolved salts to make it sweet and potable.
  • Does Permionics have a RO System?

Yes, we have Pureflo RO to take care of hard and salty high TDS water, ie. TDS beyond 600 ppm. The maximum load this system can take is 2000 ppm.
  • What are the technical specifications of Pureflo RO?

    TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

    Membrane type Polyamide RO
Free chlorine less than 0.1 ppm
    Permeate flow 8 to 10 litres/hr ± 10%
    TDS Rejection ~ 90%
